Hot dip galvanizing can be used in many industries. But do you know the advantages of it?

Hot dip galvanizing is a process developed to prevent corrosion of steel.

Before this process begins, the steel is thoroughly chemically cleaned to remove all rust, oil and scale on the surface. When the cleaning fluid is rinsed off, the coating process can begin.

The steel is immersed in a molten zinc bath heated to approximately 450°C (860°F) and then cooled in a quenching tank. When the cooling process is complete, the zinc coating is then bonded to the steel

Long Lasting

The galvanized surface is easy to clean and can provide a maintenance-free life of more than 70 years (depending on the use environment).

Low Cost

For many applications, the cost of hot-dip galvanizing is lower than the cost of applying alternative coatings. This is because that the alternatives, particularly painting, are highly labour-intensive compared to galvanizing, which is a highly mechanized, closely controlled factory process. This means investing in higher costs.

Low initial cost and long service life make galvanizing the most versatile and economical way to protect steel for a long time.

In addition, the benefits of no maintenance or extended maintenance intervals include fewer access problems in remote areas, complex terrain, densely packed buildings, or safety restrictions (such as electrical towers).

Fast Application Speed

A full protective coating can be applied within a few hours; a complex paint system can take a week.

Tough Coating

The hot dip galvanized coating is the result of a metallurgical reaction between the steel and the molten zinc. This coating has more durability to any other coatings for atmospheric exposure. The resistance to mechanical damage is by far the greatest.

Full Coverage

Because it is formed by immersing steel in molten zinc, all parts of the steel surface are coated, including the inside, outside, corners and narrow gaps that cannot be protected by any other means.

Triple Protection

The galvanized coating protects the steel in three ways:

The coating weathers at a very slow rate, thereby providing a long and predictable life.

The coating preferentially corrodes and provides cathodic (sacrificial) protection for any small steel areas exposed by drilling, cutting, or accidental damage.

If the creep damaged area is larger, the sacrificial protection prevents the sideways of rust which can undermine paint coatings.

Faster Construction

Galvanized steel can be used. Without further on-site surface preparation, painting, repair or inspection, the cladding can be started immediately, thus speeding up the construction time.

Easy to Check

Galvanized steel simplifies the inspection of the protective layer. The nature of the process is that if the coating looks intact, the steel is intact.
